Brave Time

This Brave Time class is a great choice for students who are interested and excel at Art. Students are selected based on their application responses and a sample of their artwork. If you are: highly interested in Art, disciplined and responsible, have a creative spirit, looking to try new things, hardworking and focused, willing to participate on long term projects, then you may qualify for this Brave Time course.

Battle of the Books is a state-wide competition team for students in grades 6-8. Teams of 12 compete against other schools by reading 27 books and answering questions based on each book. Battle of the Books is a great option for students who love reading, have great recall skills and work well in a team.

Chess is a class to allow students to utilize their skills acquired by playing chess. These skills are trainable to all students.  Chess educators have argued that chess is beneficial, research has shown that test scores improved by 17.3% for students who engaged in chess classes, compared with only 4.6% for children participating in other forms of enriched activities.

The Dance Brave Time class will have students moving and learning different dance styles and techniques.  Students will perform dance routines, costume design, and make-up techniques.  There will be a minimal fee to cover the cost of guest teachers, t-shirt, and music.  Dance attire will also be required for class.

This Brave Time class will be producing the bi-weekly school TV show and independent short films when time allows. This is a yearlong Brave Time class and it will be hard work, but fun work. Students will rotate taking turns being the producers, directors, camera operators, on screen talent, editors and script writers. We will cover how to ask good interview questions, how to set up good looking shots and how to write scripts for short stories. We take pride in the product that we put out and our goal as a Brave Time class is to encourage positivity and community throughout the school – even though we are behind the scenes.
